Repealing and replacing Obamacare

It has been announced that on December 12, 2016 that president elect Donald Trump will be repealing and replacing Obamacare with something else. Obamacare also known as The Affordable Care Act is a health care system that is more affordable and helps people to support their family. Obamacare would no longer be supported in January 20 and this could affect 22.8 million people who are currently using Obamacare.

Obamacare being repealed means that many people would not have health care and have to find another one that might be expensive or poor. This could affect people because most cheap healthcare systems are most likely to have more problems. People who get hurt or seriously injured could have an affect if they don’t have health care because they would have to pay even more than before. Obama care is used by millions. This event could cause people to go broke to try and afford a different health care that is experience.

Pearl Harbor 75th anniversary

December 7, 2016 was the 75th anniversary of pearl harbor. Bringing the United States to World War II, Pearl Harbor happened in December 7th, 1941 in Hawaii after Japan surprised attacked Pearl Harbor causing 188 aircrafts to be destroyed killing about 2,403 Americans and wounding 1,187 people. A reunion has been held to remember the people who survived or died during the attacks. At 7:55AM about 9,000 people gathered around for a moment of silent to those who risked their lives in Pearl Harbor. It has been truly a horrifying experience to those who were there during Pearl Harbor.

President Obama speaks up about the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor aso claiming that he will visit the USS Arizona Memorial Museum with Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe. President Elect Donald Trump also speaks up and says "America's enemies have changed over the past 75 years. But the fact remains, as President Reagan said when first proclaiming National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, 'there can be no substitute for victory' in the pursuit of peace,”

Nonfiction Blog

The book that I am currently reading is called Maus by Art Spiegelman. The book is about a Jewish soldier name Vladek sharing his stories about the war and his experience during the Holocaust to his son who is working on an article about the event. The book starts off with Vladek sharing his experience as a war prisoner and when the war ended the holocaust was starting to commence. He also shares his stories on how he and his family were struggling to live during the holocaust from hiding to lack of rations. The stories also talks about the events during the holocaust and how people were sent to Auschwitz and were killed.

The thing that interested me was when Vladek was telling his nephew to go hide in the bunker but his nephew refused to hide and accepted his faith to go to Auschwitz. This interested me because most people would actually accept hiding in a bunker to avoid getting killed in Auschwitz, but the fact that his nephew refused to go with him is quiet strange considering he accepted his fate of death. Another thing that interested me is that one of his friends gained a Nazi's trust and anytime he catches anyone who knows the guy, he actually let's them go safe. This is interesting because most Nazis don't accept anyone's trust especially a Jewish person.

The thing that I learned in Maus is that most Jews tend to spend most of their time building bunkers to avoid being sent to Auschwitz. Another thing that I learned is that some Jewish officers are actually forced to work with the Nazi's like finding Jews hiding and searching for missing people and such, there are even officers who transport Jews to Auschwitz which is quiet shocking. The thing that I wouldn't forget is that people suffer with their families during the holocaust and all the work people put into to try and avoid places like these.

Thankful Blog

The thing that I am thankful for this year is that I have my family with me and that i still support them and they support me and my other siblings. My family takes care of each other and also help anyone that is in need. I think other people should also be thankful for their family because they support them ever since they were born and can help you anytime if you need anything.

Another thing that I am thankful for is that I have my friends. When i’m bored or need help with something I always ask my friends if they could help me or if they want to do something. Friends are usually always there for you no matter what the situation it is. Friends are also the best thing to have alongside with family and sometimes it’s better to try stuff with people you know.

The last thing that I am thankful for is that I have the internet because the internet can have almost everything from social media to entertainment to information and other helpful resources. It also has materials than get be used to help you with stuff like projects, essays, etc. I am glad that I am thankful for these things but I am truly thankful about our world.

What I learned from the Gallery walk

Today in the gallery walk I learned that A super moon that's greater than pluto and is similar to earth has been discovered but not fully. Scientist report that they have evidence that proves that the planet exists and is called planet nine labeled for the ninth planet of our solar system. This could affect us because scientists are trying to find out if it exists and if it does can it support life? It can also affect us badly because since it changes our orbit slightly and could cause clusters of asteroids there could be a chance it could hit earth.

Election Reflection

So yesterday was election day to see who would be the new president of the United States. Now so far people are getting a bit worried about the new president, couple of hours later Donald Trump is elected president and people are either panicking, proud or just don't care in general. Now the thoughts that I have for the results of the election is that I think that it is crazy how Trump would win even if he is receiving all this hate and people making rants about, while Hillary is also getting hate but also a little more support. Not only that but people are going insane about these polls and the candidates that they're spreading rumors and start to point fingers on why they shouldn't be elected.

From what I know about the election this year even with no experience I don't think i'm excited or hyped about being able to vote next time because I have a feeling that who ever I support in the next election it would turn like the one this year and it would just be pure chaos. I also don't know if the presidents that I get to vote are either going to be good or bad. But I guess there is only one way to found out. Some people like to share their opinion but I don't i'm in the mood for sharing my opinion to anyone because I think there's gonna be some rally about politics and such that i don't want to be a part of.

The issues after the election ended is insane. So many people are protesting because of trump winning even thought he isn't running the office until January. People are so far going crazy about Trump winning and Hillary losing and some people are kind of hypocritical. For example before the election news letters and articles are claiming that Hillary would have a huge chance to win and people tell Trump supporters to deal with who ever is president. Once trump one everyone went insane and started to argue and complaining that the election was rigged and such. Not only that but people are also starting to cause massive arguments and strikes because they want a "change" which is unbelievable. But hey i'm not complaining about who became president I just want to see how this goes even though he didn't run the office yet.

Christmas in October

On October 23, 2016 in Berwyn,Illinois a christmas tree was placed on a house before Halloween even started. Some people are questioning why the family is placing a tree before Halloween and thanksgiving even started. The family is unknown but the guess is that the family most likely did this because they want prepare Christmas earlier or want to show that they don't celebrate Halloween.  People may be wondering what this has or do with anything but some people think it's weird that people are putting up Christmas decoration and advertising Christmas themed products when the other 2 holidays didn’t start.

1st quarter reflection

In the first quarter it was a bit hard for me to focus and to get work done. I sometimes get distracted and sometimes forget to turn in my work. But I don't think I did pretty well in class. I think that my writing didn’t change that much but I could try to improve it by finding new ways to write something that is important to me or things I need to write for my work. Cornell notes are also handy when it comes to taking a lot of notes.

I think my blog from August to now was okay. I improved a little from the first blog to now and I am proud of that. I also know how some things works when writing a blog like supporting details and topic sentences and other things like that. I usually take some notes when i'm working on a blog at home. Reading the notes I took could actually help me in a future blog or other work that needs to be written.

My goals for next quarter ELA is to not be distracted so much. So far I have been struggling to learn in ELA because I get easily distracted. My other goal for next quarter is to try and get work done quick and turned it without a lot of mistakes that I made. I sometimes forget to turn in something whether it’s a blog or just homework. I don’t only have to turn in my work for ELA quick but also in other classes that I forget to turn in. I usually struggle on finding something that I need so my other goal is to try and be more organized. Being organized means that I could find my work, items, paper, and other things easier than having to look for it and maybe forgetting it.

The Giver Movie vs Book

In The Giver it tells you that Jonas goes down the hill and started to hear music and then the book ends off with “Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo.”(180). This explains that Jonas heard music but doesn’t know if it was an echo or not. It also explains that Jonas might of went past the boundary of memories only to realize that he found the cabin he saw in the memories. In The Giver movie on the same part as the book. It shows that Jonas crossed the boundary of memory and shows the community receiving the memories. He stops the sled only to realize that the cabin he saw in the memory was real. He started to walk towards and then says “I started to Hear music from the cabin. Perhaps it was just an echo.” This quote explains that Jonas realized that after he went past the boundary of memories he started to think that fiona and the community was finally safe. These parts of The Giver are different from each other because in the book it doesn’t tell you if he crossed the boundary it only explains that he went down the hill and heard music. While in the movie it shows that Jonas went past the boundary and shows the community receiving the memories and then finds out the cabin is real and hears music coming from it. This is different because the movie showed more details than the book while the movie showed what happened when he went down the hill and in the book it talks about Jonas sliding down the hill and hearing music.

The community in The Giver movie was different than the book because it didn’t talk about the technology the community in the book had. In the book it also never mentioned what the community he lived in looks like while in the movie it reveals it’s taken place in a floating platform. The community is also syfy based in the movie and I think this changed the story because since they have this technology they could easily find out what Jonas is up to and this could’ve lead to Jonas getting caught earlier making him fail his plan to change the community. This also affects the story because the memories and emotions are basically being erased by the injections shown in the movie and the drone that Asher used to help Jonas escape could also affect the story because if he didn’t help Jonas he would’ve been killed or probably brought back to the community to be released as well as Gabe.

I think that the book made me have an impact on what's going on more than the movie because the book explains more about The story than the movie like characters, plot, location and even the emotions that the characters were feeling. It also shows more about the community and more about who Jonas is and why he’s doing all these things in the book while in the movie it just fast forwards into the part where things get complicated making it very confusing to understand because there is no origin on why or how this happened. The book also shows extra details and more interactions that the character faces.

The Giver Theme Blog

Jonas is a dynamic character and the reason why he’s dynamic is because in the beginning of the story the only thing he cared about was the job he’s gonna get. Later on During the ceremony he was skipped and was embarrassed about it. When Chief Elder Stood up and hold Jonas’s arm he then announces “You will be trained to be our next Receiver of Memory. We thank you for your childhood”(64). Jonas was surprised and confused when he heard this. He didn't know why he was chosen as the receiver of memories. Soon time went by and Jonas proceeds to visit and meet The Giver for the first time. Soon he began his training. During the his training The Giver decided to share his memories with Jonas. He experienced lots of things such as snow, Holidays and even sled riding. The moment he changed was when Jonas experienced the Memory of war… He was traumatized to see what was happening. When Jonas and his friends were playing a game of war it says “In his mind, Jonas found the face of the boy who had lain dying on a. Field and had begged him for water”(134). During the game of war it also talks about Jonas “Struggling not to cry”(134). This shows that Jonas changed from the story. In the beginning he did not feel emotions but now that he thought about the boy dying in the memory of war he started to feel more emotional about the stuff that's happening around him.

The theme for the book The Giver is “looking through the past can create wisdom (memories)” I think that this is the theme because when Jonas first got the memories he realised that his community is a dead and crucial place. When Jonas found out about the memory of war it talks about how traumatized Jonas was after he first seen the experience of war. Soon when Jonas and his friends were playing a game of war it says “In his mind, Jonas had saw the face of the boy who had laid dying on a field and had begged him for water”(134).  This shows that Jonas finds out that war is wrong and that he and his friends shouldn’t be playing around about it.Jonas experienced a lot during his memories. Another reason memory creates wisdom is when Jonas realised that release meant to kill. When his father killed the newborn with the syringe filled with liquid Jonas started to scream that his father just killed a baby for an unfair reason. When Jonas then found out that Gabriel is getting released the next day. Jonas then realised that the memories were the cause of this and decided to take Gabriel with him to change his community. When Jonas fell of the bike it then sees a waterfall for the first time and wildlife. When he arrived it then says “Plane!, Plane! Gabriel called, and Jonas turned swiftly into the trees.”(172) This shows that Jonas experienced this before and since The Giver gave Jonas the memories including some of his he remembers about the plane he saw in the beginning of the book. That's why I think this is the theme for The Giver

The Giver Blog

Aha moment-The reason Jonas left the house was to arrive at the ceremony page 21. The reason why this is important is because this is the first ceremony that Jonas attended to. we know that nothing happens to Jonas in the ceremony but it might tell us that something is going to happen. Whether it's good or bad it might affect Jonas in some other way. Since Jonas is noticing these weird things throughout the book for example in page 24 it says "But suddenly Jonas had noticed, following the path of the apple through the air with his eyes. well this is the part he couldn't adequately understand-The apple had changed" This is an example that Jonas is noticing these weird things throughout the story. He does seem a bit worried about what will happen in the future after some strange things that he is noticing.


Again and again-ceremony pg.17 in the book The Giver by Lois Lowry the cloud ceremony repeats over and over again. This might be important because later in the book one of the ceremony that Jonas is going might affect him. Jonas went to the ceremony of twelves on page 28 and not that much stuff happened during the ceremony of twelve. He also mentions that he is going to another ceremony on page 29. In the ceremony of twelves that Jonas attends, the announcer mentioned that they were celebrating a release in page 28 In the book on page 28 it says "Let's see. Asher and fiona will be helping in the bathing room. why do you join them there?" This means that Jonas was assigned to help Asher and Fiona in the bathing room. This could affect Jonas because since they will pick a job for him it could probably mean that he won't be qualified and would probably get released.
