Quarter 2 Reflection

We did many things over the 2nd quarter and now that it's about to end i'm going to write a reflection about the 2nd quarter. During the second we read a lot of books and one of my favorite books is Maus By Art Spiegelman. Maus is about Art's father experiences during the holocaust, talking about the many people who were involved and the horrors that takes place. So far I wrote 2 blogs talking about the book, one being the first one of the series and the other is the 2nd part of the series. I like this book. Because it is a very interesting tale when you read about the people who were involved and how detailed it was described by the images shown. Although is has a bit of graphic scenes, I recommend getting it if you are interested on reading about the Holocaust.

Now to talk about my biggest improvements and so far my biggest improvement is starting to understand more about annotations. In the beginning of annotations I was struggling a bit, by now I'm starting to get used to it and i'm actually proud of it because accomplishing something that I didn't understand before is a huge deal for me. Annotating could help me understand the article more and also answer my questions that I've been wondering about the article. 

The most challenging part of 2nd quarter is me keeping track on the things that I need to finish. Sometimes I forget to work on homework and write important stuff down during class. I can overcome this by reminding myself to turn in unfinished work or to finish work that needs to be done and turned in. Quarter 2 was very challenging for me and hopefully it's less challenging in quarter 3 and 4.

Book Talk: Maus II: and here my trouble began

The book that I'm currently reading is called Maus II: and here my trouble began by Art Spiegleman which is realistic fiction and is the second book in the series. In the first book it is about a jewish father named Vladek Speigleman who is sharing his stories in Auschwitz to his son who is writing a book about the experience his father had during the holocaust. The second book talks more about his experience but it is more dramatic than the last book. The mood of this book is a combination between shocking and sad because the book talks about some of the deaths and horrible experience to others who struggled in the holocaust. As of now I only read 75 pages of the book so the ending is sti a mystery for me.

Repealing and replacing Obamacare

It has been announced that on December 12, 2016 that president elect Donald Trump will be repealing and replacing Obamacare with something else. Obamacare also known as The Affordable Care Act is a health care system that is more affordable and helps people to support their family. Obamacare would no longer be supported in January 20 and this could affect 22.8 million people who are currently using Obamacare.

Obamacare being repealed means that many people would not have health care and have to find another one that might be expensive or poor. This could affect people because most cheap healthcare systems are most likely to have more problems. People who get hurt or seriously injured could have an affect if they don’t have health care because they would have to pay even more than before. Obama care is used by millions. This event could cause people to go broke to try and afford a different health care that is experience.

Pearl Harbor 75th anniversary

December 7, 2016 was the 75th anniversary of pearl harbor. Bringing the United States to World War II, Pearl Harbor happened in December 7th, 1941 in Hawaii after Japan surprised attacked Pearl Harbor causing 188 aircrafts to be destroyed killing about 2,403 Americans and wounding 1,187 people. A reunion has been held to remember the people who survived or died during the attacks. At 7:55AM about 9,000 people gathered around for a moment of silent to those who risked their lives in Pearl Harbor. It has been truly a horrifying experience to those who were there during Pearl Harbor.

President Obama speaks up about the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor aso claiming that he will visit the USS Arizona Memorial Museum with Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe. President Elect Donald Trump also speaks up and says "America's enemies have changed over the past 75 years. But the fact remains, as President Reagan said when first proclaiming National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, 'there can be no substitute for victory' in the pursuit of peace,”

Nonfiction Blog

The book that I am currently reading is called Maus by Art Spiegelman. The book is about a Jewish soldier name Vladek sharing his stories about the war and his experience during the Holocaust to his son who is working on an article about the event. The book starts off with Vladek sharing his experience as a war prisoner and when the war ended the holocaust was starting to commence. He also shares his stories on how he and his family were struggling to live during the holocaust from hiding to lack of rations. The stories also talks about the events during the holocaust and how people were sent to Auschwitz and were killed.

The thing that interested me was when Vladek was telling his nephew to go hide in the bunker but his nephew refused to hide and accepted his faith to go to Auschwitz. This interested me because most people would actually accept hiding in a bunker to avoid getting killed in Auschwitz, but the fact that his nephew refused to go with him is quiet strange considering he accepted his fate of death. Another thing that interested me is that one of his friends gained a Nazi's trust and anytime he catches anyone who knows the guy, he actually let's them go safe. This is interesting because most Nazis don't accept anyone's trust especially a Jewish person.

The thing that I learned in Maus is that most Jews tend to spend most of their time building bunkers to avoid being sent to Auschwitz. Another thing that I learned is that some Jewish officers are actually forced to work with the Nazi's like finding Jews hiding and searching for missing people and such, there are even officers who transport Jews to Auschwitz which is quiet shocking. The thing that I wouldn't forget is that people suffer with their families during the holocaust and all the work people put into to try and avoid places like these.

Thankful Blog

The thing that I am thankful for this year is that I have my family with me and that i still support them and they support me and my other siblings. My family takes care of each other and also help anyone that is in need. I think other people should also be thankful for their family because they support them ever since they were born and can help you anytime if you need anything.

Another thing that I am thankful for is that I have my friends. When i’m bored or need help with something I always ask my friends if they could help me or if they want to do something. Friends are usually always there for you no matter what the situation it is. Friends are also the best thing to have alongside with family and sometimes it’s better to try stuff with people you know.

The last thing that I am thankful for is that I have the internet because the internet can have almost everything from social media to entertainment to information and other helpful resources. It also has materials than get be used to help you with stuff like projects, essays, etc. I am glad that I am thankful for these things but I am truly thankful about our world.

What I learned from the Gallery walk

Today in the gallery walk I learned that A super moon that's greater than pluto and is similar to earth has been discovered but not fully. Scientist report that they have evidence that proves that the planet exists and is called planet nine labeled for the ninth planet of our solar system. This could affect us because scientists are trying to find out if it exists and if it does can it support life? It can also affect us badly because since it changes our orbit slightly and could cause clusters of asteroids there could be a chance it could hit earth.
